It's Awards Season

It's awards season, and we're so delighted to have been shortlisted for:

Children's Publisher of the Year at the British Book Awards 2025

'Five years on from launch, Magic Cat’s TCM sales rose by 25%. But it’s overseas where it really motored: numbers in the US and Australia doubled, and foreign rights were the single biggest source of revenue. At this rate of growth, and after snapping up some big names including Jamie Oliver and Robert Macfarlane, its ambition to become Britain’s top illustrated children’s publisher feels entirely plausible.'

Independent Publisher of the Year at the British Book Awards 2025

'Magic Cat, the 2024 Small Press of the Year, has grown so fast that it is no longer eligible for that category. Its team have gone from three to 28 in just five years and they grew revenue by a third in 2024. It got remarkable visibility for its boutique picture list and hit new heights in the US. “Joy and possibility have infused the process of publishing with Magic Cat,” said one of its authors.'

Book of the Year - Children's Non-Fiction for The World to Come

'The World to Come, a poetical celebration of nature by Robert Macfarlane and folk singer Johnny Flynn, received numerous plaudits and was selected as a Foyles Book of the Year. Magic Cat put inclusivity at the heart of their campaign, creating a sing-along event at Waterstones Piccadilly for the book launch. Flynn visited schools with guitar in-hand and Macfarlane embarked on an indie bookshop signing tour.'

Book of the Year - Children's Illustrated for Letters from the North Pole

'Annie Atkins, a graphic designer on Wes Anderson films, has crafted a tale rooted in Christmas nostalgia. Illustrated by Fia Tobing, Letters from the North Pole was the Sunday Times’ Children’s Book of the Year and treated to a thoughtful campaign from Magic Cat. The team organised letter making events and programmed a speaker slot for Atkins at the Children’s Books Ireland International Conference. Window displays, designed by Atkins, beautified a Kew bookshop window and Daunt bookshops across London.'
